Stellenbosch Beats AmaZulu 5-0

Stellenbosch FC delivered a stunning performance with a 5-0 victory over AmaZulu FC in their Betway Premiership match on Thursday night, 23 January.

The match – which took place at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal – began cautiously until Stellies attacker, Khomotjo Lekoloane, broke the deadlock in the 34th minute.

In the second half, teammate Devin Titus netted a brace in the 57th and 66th minutes; midfielder Chumani Butsaka added another goal in the 60th minute, bringing the score to 4-0. Ibraheem Jabaar rounded off the scoring with a late strike in the 80th minute.

In addition to the Cape Winelands outfit ending their three-match losing streak on a high note, Butsaka’s performance earned him the “Man of the Match” award.

On the other hand, this game marks AmaZulu’s heaviest defeat in over six years, reminiscent of a similar scoreline against Mamelodi Sundowns in 2019.

The victory has propelled Stellenbosch to seventh place in the Premier Soccer League standings with 19 points, while AmaZulu sits in tenth place with 16 points.
